RRB ALP Eligibility Criteria

To apply for RRB ALP positions, candidates must meet certain eligibility criteria related to age, educational qualification, and nationality.

Nationality/Citizenship

A candidate must be one of the following:

  • Citizen of India
  • Subject of Nepal
  • Subject of Bhutan
  • Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1st January 1962
  • Person of Indian origin who has migrated from specified countries

Age Limit

The age limit for RRB ALP posts is generally between 18 to 30 years. However, age relaxations are provided for certain categories:

Educational Qualifications

The minimum educational qualification for RRB ALP posts is:

Matriculation/SSLC plus ITI from recognized institutions

OR

Matriculation/SSLC plus Course Completed Act Apprenticeship

OR

3 years Diploma in Mechanical/Electrical/Electronics/Automobile Engineering

OR

Combination of various qualifications (check official notification)

Physical & Medical Standards

RRB ALP candidates must meet certain physical and medical standards:

Visual Standards

Distant vision: 6/9, 6/12 with or without glasses. Near vision: Sn: 0.6, 0.6 with or without glasses. Must pass tests for color vision, binocular vision, etc.

Physical Fitness

Candidates should be physically fit and free from any physical defects that may interfere with the performance of their duties.

Medical Examination

Selected candidates must pass a detailed medical examination conducted by railway authorized doctors.

RRB ALP Exam Pattern

The RRB ALP examination consists of multiple stages designed to test technical knowledge, reasoning ability, and aptitude.

First Stage Computer Based Test (CBT)

The first stage CBT is a screening exam with the following pattern:

Second Stage Computer Based Test (CBT)

Candidates who qualify the first stage CBT are called for the second stage CBT which consists of two parts:

Part B

Part B is a qualifying test of 75 questions relevant to the trade syllabus prescribed by Director General of Employment & Training (DGET). The duration is 60 minutes.

Important: There is negative marking of 1/3 mark for each wrong answer in both parts. Candidates need to qualify in Part B, but marks from Part B are not added for final merit.

Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT)

Candidates who qualify the second stage CBT are called for CBAT (for candidates who have opted for ALP posts).

CBAT assesses candidates on:

  • Multi-tasking ability

Note: The CBAT is qualifying in nature. Candidates need to secure a minimum score of 42 marks in each test battery to qualify. There is no negative marking.
