To apply for the SSC JHT exam, candidates must fulfill certain eligibility criteria related to nationality, age limit, and educational qualifications.
Nationality/Citizenship
A candidate must be either:
(a) a citizen of India, or
(b) a subject of Nepal, or
(c) a subject of Bhutan, or
(d) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
(e) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.
Age Limit
The age limit for SSC JHT exam is 18 to 30 years as on the cutoff date mentioned in the official notification. Age relaxation is applicable for reserved categories as per government norms:
- OBC: 3 years relaxation
- SC/ST: 5 years relaxation
- PwD: 10 years relaxation
- Other categories as per government rules
Educational Qualification
Essential Qualifications:
(a) Master’s degree of a recognized University in Hindi with English as a compulsory or elective subject or as the medium of examination at the degree level;
OR
(b) Master’s degree of a recognized University in English with Hindi as a compulsory or elective subject or as the medium of examination at the degree level;
OR
(c) Master’s degree of a recognized University in any subject other than Hindi or English, with Hindi medium and English as a compulsory or elective subject or as the medium of examination at the degree level;
OR
(d) Master’s degree of a recognized University in any subject other than Hindi or English, with English medium and Hindi as a compulsory or elective subject or as the medium of examination at the degree level;
OR
(e) Master’s degree of a recognized University in any subject other than Hindi or English, with Hindi and English as compulsory or elective subjects or either of the two as medium of examination and the other as a compulsory or elective subject at degree level.
Note: Candidates who have not yet acquired but are pursuing their final year of Master’s degree can also apply, but they must submit proof of passing the Master’s degree examination at the time of document verification.

The SSC JHT examination consists of two papers – Paper I (Computer Based Examination) and Paper II (Descriptive Translation Test).

Selection Process

Candidates who qualify Paper I are called for Paper II. Final selection is based on the combined performance in both papers.
Important: There is negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer in Paper I. Paper II is evaluated only for those candidates who secure the minimum qualifying marks in Paper I.
